“it’s hard to stand
on shifting sand
it’s hard to shine
in the shadows of the night
you can’t be free
if you don’t reach for help
and you can’t love
if you don’t love yourself
but there is hope when my faith runs out…
’cause i’m in better hands now

it’s like the sun is shining
when the rain is pouring down
it’s like my soul is flying
though my feet are on the ground
so take this heart of mine
there’s no doubt
i’m in better hands now
i am strong
all because of you
i stand in awe of
every mountain that you move
i am changed
yesterday is gone
i am safe
from this moment on…
and there’s no fear when the night comes around
i’m in better hands now

it’s like the sun is shining
when the rain is pouring down
it’s like my soul is flying
though my feet are on the ground
it’s like the world is silent
though i know it isn’t true
it’s like the breath of Jesus
is right here in this room
so take this heart of mine
there’s no doubt

you can’t be saved
if you’re not reaching out for help…”

~ “in better hands”… by natalie grant

I was in Tennessee for my great uncle’s funeral on October 6th. It’s pretty characteristic of funerals to be really sad, and this one definitely was. But… honestly, there was so much joy in that place. It really drowned out the tears. The room was filled with an unexplainable peace… there is only one thing to say about it, and that’s the fact that it was God.

There is no fear of the unknown anymore when you know God. No, it doesn’t mean life is going to be perfectly easy or go just the way you think it should. But it does mean that we have God with us. He’s there to help us and love us.

Not only is my great uncle in better hands, we all are in better hands when we let go of the control we think we have over our lives. God gives joy like no one and nothing else can. Just “like the sun is shining when the rain is pouring down.” That’s pretty much how I felt at the services in Tennessee. “Like the breath of Jesus” was there in the middle of us.

There is just nothing like the joy and peace that comes from knowing God.
