“And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell; but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” [Joshua 24:15, Amplified Bible]

It cannot be put off. How simple it is to procrastinate or even to just be indifferent. To avoid thought on the subject of choosing between serving the Lord or serving our selves and the gods of the world is so much easier than to choose to serve the Lord and then feel as though you’ve fallen short of following through with that choice.

Who do you serve? Everybody serves somebody. Whether it be God or ourselves or our money or job or even our family or friends. We all serve something or someone.

Sometimes it ends up being an almost unconscious decision. Lack of deliberately thinking on the subject does not eliminate the choice that must be made. We all make the choice of who or what we serve, whether or not we realize it. To not choose at all is to choose against serving Him.

If we just would realize the implications of serving and loving and living for God.. for the One who made us..

“… He declares blessed (joyful and favored with blessings) the home of the just and consistently righteous.” [Proverbs 3:33, Amplified Bible]

God blesses those who serve and love and live for Him. He declares us and our homes blessed. He gives us joy and lavishes us with His blessings. Not that blessing should be our motivation for living all for Him — blessing is what He brings as a result though.

I love those country signs that say “bless this home”.. He so wants to bless us. He so wants us to let Him.

Choose today.. who will you serve?

I’ve chosen. As for me and my house.. we will serve the Lord.
