Last night I watched “The Dark Knight”..

It was my first time to see it, and this part in the movie captured me.. they were talking about either dying a hero or living to see yourself become a villian. And Batman walked away. He didn’t need to be a hero in the eyes of the world.

This stood out to me.. I suppose because the real heros are the ones who choose to do the right thing. Even when it may not be a popular decision. Even when it may cost them an awful lot. That takes a good amount of courage to be that sort of a hero.

And.. real heros don’t need to be known as such. They probably would even deny that they are a hero. But that doesn’t change the fact that they are. I think, in a way, it makes them a hero — even more so.

“Whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but whoever takes crooked paths will be found out.” — Proverbs 10:9, TNIV

To walk the crooked paths.. to live with a heart wrapped up in manipulation, deceit, selfishness, hate.. even if it doesn’t necessarily show through at first, it will end up showing through. The heart always ends up showing its true colors. Proverbs 27:19 [TNIV] says it this way: “As water reflects the face, so one’s life reflects the heart.”

When you walk in integrity.. when it’s your way of life.. you walk securely. And that is the way of a true hero. Living a life of integrity at any cost.
