“May the LORD answer you when you are in distress; may the name of the God of Jacob protect you. May he send you help from the sanctuary and grant you support from Zion. May he remember all your sacrifices and accept your burnt offerings. Selah. May he give you the desire of your heart and make all your plans succeed. We will shout for joy when you are victorious and will lift up our banners in the name of our God. May the LORD grant all your requests. Now I know that the LORD saves his anointed; he answers him from his holy heaven with the saving power of his right hand. Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God. They are brought to their knees and fall, but we rise up and stand firm. O LORD, save the king! Answer us when we call!” [Psalm 20, NIV]

Some put their trust in the world, in themselves, in others… but not us. We trust in the name of the Lord our God. Always. He does answer us when we call.

Jon posted a thank you on Amy’s facebook yesterday, and I want to pass that thank you along to those of you who wouldn’t see it otherwise. I want you to read his words of thanks for all your prayers, rather than my words. So here it is:

This is Jon. I just wanted to thank all of my family, friends and those I have not met for their prayers and acts of kindness. God has given me peace and hope through this difficult time…”

He went on to say that he and Amy got the news Friday that this last MRI showed “a small portion of the tumor was still deep in the brain around the cranial nerves”, and they are “aggressively attacking this area” with Jon’s radiation treatments. He says, “Much prayer is appreciated.”

Well.. that is not the news that anybody wanted, but.. God is so very, very big. I know I’ve said that so many times by now, but it’s true, and it’s essential that we know and believe and remember it. He has been doing so much in this dear family, is at this very moment, and will continue to do so.

And as this passage says, “we will shout for joy.. and will lift up our banners in the name of our God.” Our God is victorious, and He reigns.

I think sometimes when you’re in distress like the first verse above mentions, it seems easier just to try and trust in what you can see. What that ends up being, I don’t know. Because really, if you choose not to trust and believe our Maker, then.. there is nothing else. But to be in distress, I think, is sort of like despairing.. and as Marilla says, “To despair is to turn one’s back on God.” I can’t even say how many gentle reminders He gives me to say over and over and over “Remember…” Remember Who He is.

That’s what this chapter reminds me of. No matter what others choose to put their hope in, we choose to trust in Him.

Keep praising Him in the storm, praying, and believing along with us, please. The story so far..
