In perusing my facebook newsfeed a few weeks ago, I ran across friend’s status that read like this: “Praise is not about how we feel, it’s about getting past ourselves, and lifting Him up strictly because He’s worthy!” – Micah H.

This status caught my eye, I suppose, because I know it to be true, as well as because I have seen it so much lately in this sweet family. How they keep it up, I’m not sure except to say that it’s a God thing.

“Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things… I can do everything through him who gives me strength… And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus. To our God and Father be glory for ever and ever. Amen.” – Philippians 4:4-8, 13, 19-20, NIV

These verses.. are amazing. Don’t be anxious, but instead pray. And do it with a thankful heart. God brings peace that we cannot even understand when we trust Him.

I think it’s easy to focus on the negative.. especially because it is thrown at each of us from every angle these days. The whole world is so full of negativity and pessimism, and that is exactly the opposite of what Paul talks about in this passage. The world is full of opposition to what Paul says, though, because our nature is to try to go on our own.. to listen to everything but what God is telling us.

If you look at the people who take the Bible for what it is and really live by it, those are the ones who have real joy in their lives. And people who don’t follow Him wonder what is wrong, why they have no hope…

Today marks the halfway point for Jon’s treatments, so that is pretty exciting! Amy says his last treatment is set for July 31. He’s having a difficult time preparing to go every day when he knows it is going to make him feel worse.. which I can so see. Because who wants to feel worse? It makes him feel more and more tired, as well as unable to think about more than one thing at a time. So pray for that aspect of all of this, please.

Pray for Jon’s encouragement in going through this second half of the radiation treatments, for his strength and physical health, and for him to be able to think and concentrate like he normally would. Pray for his joy and smile. That’s really important through it all, and I know it’s hard.

Amy says, “God is our refuge and we are resting in his everlasting arms; trusting that he will restore Jon to complete health.” Having the chance to get away for last weekend had to be so nice too.. thanking God for that opportunity for them!

Keep praising Him in the storm, praying, and believing along with us, please. The story so far..
