Prayer does change things. God wants to us to tell Him what’s going on in our lives. The good and the bad. Yes, even though He knows it already. He wants us to be thankful always and to learn and choose to have joy when times are hard. I think a lot of times when we pray, it helps our own hearts as much as it makes a difference in our circumstances. Through prayer and sharing with God what we’re concerned about and what we’re thankful for, He gives us a peace that we can’t even understand… and that peace will guard our hearts and minds in Him.

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.” – Philippians 4:6-8, NIV

Telling Him our thoughts gives us an opportunity to let Him lift the weight of our concerns from us. When we think about the good… finding good in all circumstances… we’re looking for and at the things that we were meant to focus on anyway. We’re finding God in the midst of the not-so-fun stuff.

Is that hard?


He will help us though. If we’ll just let go enough to ask Him.
